Welcome to Eliot's USPTO API Search Engine

Start by entering a PTAB docket number, party name, patent, publication, or application number above. Preferred patent number and application number formats are 10032171 and 13599647, respectively.

Search Modes:
Quick - No recursive family search.
Perform Full Family Search - Button shown above the patent summary after a result loads; runs a recursive family expansion.
PTAB Only - Only searches the PTAB database (useful when searching parties with large patent portfolios).
PTAB Decisions - Text search of PTAB decisions. Example: "settled expectations".
PTAB Attorney Name - Searches PTAB proceedings where the search term appears as lead counsel. If searching a full name, use "Last, First" format. Quotation marks are not required.
Prosecution Attorney Search - Structured USPTO search for matters where a particular attorney is listed as having power of attorney.

Recent Discretionary Decisions - Retrieves all Director discretionary denials/referrals.
Settled Expectations Search - Shortcut for a PTAB Decisions search for opinions addressing "settled expectations".
Pending Director Review Search - Shortcut for a search of cases awaiting a Director Review decision.

PTO search syntax:
? = any single character (e.g., "El?n")
* = zero or more wildcard characters (e.g., "Lego*")
"" = exact phrase match (e.g., "Sound View")

Version 1.12 updates:

• Added Other Proceedings Where Mentioned table. Attempts to locate PTAB proceedings where the patent of interest was used as prior art.
• Added Pending Director Review Search, see description above.
• Search now checks both plain and comma-grouped number formats (for example, 11080693 and 11,080,693) and strips leading US.
• Improved fallback to Google in various situations, including WIPO and PCT numbers.
• Fixed missing non-AIA PTAB hits that broke in January when the old PTAB API was retired.

Version 1.11 updates:

• Various UI improvements to patent summary.
• Added Power of Attorney and Patent Term Adjustment data tables.
• Added claim download button. If an XML version of the patent is available, the app generates a DOCX claim chart while maintaining original claim indentation.
• Added estimated expiration date calculation.
